Arunachal Pradesh plans Kamala Hydro Electric Project

Arunachal Pradesh government is planning to develop Kamala Hydro Electric Project in Tamen Village in Lower Subansri district of the state. The project is conceived as a multipurpose project with the twin objectives of power generation and flood moderation. The project involves setting up of a 216 meter concrete gravity dam and 8×216 MW power generating units. The total land to be acquired for the project is 3279 ha.

The project also involves setting up of 2 x 36 MW in dam toe surface powerhouse on the right bank, which will utilize the mandatory release of water from the dam to generate power.

In 2018, a joint venture company was formed as Kamala Hydro Electric Power Company Limited (KHEPCL) (formerly Subansiri
Hydro Electric Power Company Ltd.), a joint venture between Jindal Power Ltd and Hydro Power Development Corporation of Arunachal Pradesh Ltd.

Later KHEPCL has engaged SNC-Lavalin Engineering India Pvt. Ltd. (SLEI) to act as its engineering consultant for updation and preparation of the DPR.
