Arunachal Pradesh state is supposed to get 1,893 mobile towers in the rough terrain of Arunachal Pradesh through the allotted Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF). The project has been handed over to Bharat Sanchal Nigam Ltd where it had been subcontracted to Vihaan Networks Ltd.
As of December 2018, there had been reports of sub-standard of towers and funds for the project has been held up. The state is a hilly region with remote place where connectivity is not economically viable for telecom operators and hence a large of the cost of telecom towers have to be met from USOF obligations.
